Iron Filings
It should be noted that it does not keep well in oxidising conditions unless coated with a suitable agent, Linseed oil is recommended for this. Iron filings have also widely been used in magnetism experiments.
We have two types of iron filings;
Fresh, these have a brighter iron surface and have a slightly larger particle size.
Oxidized, these are a slightly finer particle size and have an Fe(II)O coating.
