Cryolite is one of the recommended yellow flame colorants, as it is one of the few sodium compounds that is unreactive, water insoluble, and not hygroscopic.

Danger
Causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure. Harmful if inhaled or swallowed. Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
