Atomized aluminium is commonly used in glitter and gunpowder based compositions. The material is very fine and is reported as <250 mesh (~63μ). Aluminium is hazardous when wet as it reacts quite exothermically with water, care should be taken with aluminium compositions.

Prevention: Keep away from any possible contact with water, because of violent reaction and possible flash fire. Handle under inert gas. Protect from moisture. Wear face protection. Keep away from heat. — No smoking. Ground container and receiving equipment. Use explosion-proof electrical equipment.
Response: Brush off loose particles from skin. Immerse in cool water. In case of fire: Use dry powder for extinction, never use water.
